Motors
In most buildings, motors are used typically to drive blowers, pumps, compressors, and elevators. There are many ways of reducing motor run times, each associated with specific equipment. You also can install controls that automatically cycle motors of various pieces of equipment. These should be investigated to determine to what extent you can utilize them.
Take the time to improve motor and motor/machine efficiency. In that way, less energy is used every time the motor is used.
Typical steps include:
1. Lubricating motor and drives to reduce friction
2. Replacing worn motor bearings.
3. Keeping motors clean to facilitate cooling
4. Checking alignment between motor and drive equipment to reduce wear and excessive torques.
5. Tightening belts and pulley at regular intervals to reduce losses due to slip.
When replacing worn or defective motors, select the highest efficiency motor available, sized as close to the load as possible.
